<p><em>Depuis 1970, année de lancement de la première génération, le Suzuki Jimny fait le bonheur des populations montagnardes en leur offrant compacité, aspects pratiques et surtout des capacités de franchissement hors-norme pour un engin de ce prix. Après 19 ans de bons et loyaux services, la troisième génération du petit baroudeur cède la place à une nouvelle mouture. Celle-ci semble d&rsquo;ores et déjà plébiscitée à en juger par le nombre de commandes effectuées le premier mois. Elles ont, en effet, atteint les prévisions de ventes établies pour&#8230; un an&nbsp;! À l&rsquo;ère du tout SUV, cette alternative décalée et pure 4&#215;4 avec sa bouille adorable serait-elle repartie pour 20 ans de succès ? </em></p>

<p>Au <a href="https://lenouvelautomobiliste.fr/actualites/salons/mondial-de-lauto-2018/paris-2018-live-suzuki-jimny/">Mondial de l’Auto de Paris 2018</a>, le Jimny était incontestablement une des stars qu’il nous tardait de découvrir. Comme nombre de visiteurs, il nous a été difficile de résister à sa bouille vraiment craquante, dont les yeux ronds nous fixaient, enserrés dans une calandre à barres verticales (ou grillagée sur les modèles dotés de cet accessoire) et secondés par des clignotants décorés d’un motif en nids d’abeilles.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Le charme opère toujours en en faisant le tour. La forme cubique de sa silhouette est accentuée par sa taille ultra-réduite de 3,65 m (incluant la roue de secours), soit un bon 35 cm de moins qu’une citadine type Renault Clio&nbsp;! Les passages de roues en plastique, les gros pneus, le toit contrasté bien plat (le premier coup de frein envoie directement sur le capot toute l&rsquo;eau qui s&rsquo;y est accumulée pendant la nuit), les feux intégrés au pare-chocs arrière… Le style s’est affirmé autant qu’il s’est modernisé et interpelle nombre de passants. Certains lui trouveraient même des airs de Mercedes-Benz Classe G en réduction et ce n&rsquo;est pas pour nuire à son charme.</p>

<p>Même si la roue de secours trône fièrement sur la porte de coffre s’ouvrant à l’horizontale comme sur un Ford EcoSport, l’arrière du Jimny nous « Evoque » plutôt un Land-Rover : le Defender. Côté concurrence d&rsquo;ailleurs, on cherche encore. Le <a href="https://lenouvelautomobiliste.fr/essais/toyota-rav4-veme-generation-le-4x4-hybride-sans-demi-mesure/">Toyota RAV4</a> n&rsquo;existe plus en version 3 portes depuis belle lurette, le Jeep Wrangler joue dans une autre catégorie&#8230; Ce qui se rapproche le plus de cette proposition est la Fiat Panda 4&#215;4, disponible dans une mignonne variante « Cross ».  </p>

<p>Avant de prendre le volant du Jimny, nous nous attardons quelques instants sur le tableau de bord. Face au conducteur, deux gros compteurs ronds encastrés dans deux carrés noir laqué, à gauche du volant les boutons des aides à la conduite, sur la console centrale une série de gâchettes pour les vitres électriques et le système d’aide à la descente. Enfin, sous la main droite, un grand levier de vitesses, secondé par son petit frère<strong> </strong>de la boîte de transfert permettant de passer de 2 à 4 roues motrices.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Le passager est quant à lui installé face à la petite boîte à gants, surmontée d’un espace de rangement (idéal pour son smartphone) et d&rsquo;une grosse poignée de maintien à laquelle il pourra se cramponner en conduite <em>offroad</em>. Au sommet de ce tableau de bord, aux matériaux simples voire basiques mais pas désagréables à regarder, trône l’écran tactile à l’interface minimaliste.</p>

<p>Pour accéder aux places arrière, il faut basculer puis avancer le siège avant. L’opération aurait pu être simplifiée par un mécanisme basculant dudit siège, d’autant que l&rsquo;assise du conducteur ne revient pas en position et qu’il faut recommencer tous ses réglages après l’opération. Seuls deux passagers peuvent s&rsquo;installer à l&rsquo;arrière, le Jimny étant une stricte 4 places, mais au moins l&rsquo;habitabilité y est satisfaisante.</p>

<p>En ouvrant la porte de coffre pour charger les affaires du weekend on découvre le revers de cette habitabilité correcte. Surprise&nbsp;: il va falloir choisir entre les passagers et la valise. Disposant de seulement 85 litres de chargement, soit 115 de moins qu&rsquo;une Panda, le coffre est réduit à la portion congrue. Contraints de devoir porter les mêmes sous-vêtements deux jours d&rsquo;affilée, nous le remplissons avec deux parapluies et une boîte de biscuits, qui passeront leur temps à glisser de gauche à droite pendant le trajet et se casseront la figure à l’arrivée en ouvrant la porte.</p>

<p>Deuxième option s’il n’y a pas d’occupants au deuxième rang, rabattre les sièges arrière, ce qui se fait en un tour de main en tirant une languette. On profite alors de 830 litres, mais c’est cette fois-ci dans tout l’habitacle que votre chargement se promènera plus ou moins violemment. </p>

<p>Les proportions extérieures ne trompent pas sur la position de conduite&nbsp;: on est assis haut face à un pare-brise vertical offrant une vue panoramique sur le capot droit devant, dans un habitacle moins étroit qu’il n’y paraît. Avec ses portes bien verticales et son toit surélevé, le Jimny offre une habitabilité correcte à l’avant.</p>

<p>Sous ses airs de petit rustre, le Jimny est un bon allié en milieu urbain.&nbsp; Le levier de vitesses tombe bien sous la main, ce qui est appréciable lorsque l&rsquo;on change constamment de rapport, même si nous devons émettre une réserve sur la 1ère et la marche arrière qui ne verrouillent pas forcément bien. L&rsquo;expérience urbaine reste toutefois agréable. Sa direction souple et sa maniabilité sont surprenantes et permettent de se faufiler habilement dans les ruelles. </p>

<p>En contrepartie, au vu de la hauteur de l&rsquo;auto, on appréhende un peu cette vivacité hors agglomération, avec une peur infondée de tourner trop fort et de se retourner. Mais le comportement routier se montre globalement sain et n&rsquo;impose pas de roulis trop prononcé. On note toutefois des mouvements de caisse inhérents à la hauteur du petit Suzuki qui incitent à calmer le rythme. Sur les routes de campagne, la plus grande déception vient de la boîte de vitesses. Si l&rsquo;on apprécie ses rapports courts sur les petits trajets, on se retrouve à bout de souffle passé les 110 km/h.</p>



<p>De toute façon, bien avant d&rsquo;atteindre cette vitesse, le Jimny révèle une direction imprécise et pas très communicative. Contrairement au moteur, qui est à l’inverse assez bavard. La faute à l&rsquo;absence de 6<sup>e</sup> vitesse et aux 5 premiers rapports étagés très courts, le 1.5 devient un moulin à parole, dont la voix est heureusement étouffée par une insonorisation acceptable.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Lancé sur l’A86, notre Classe G miniature va donc bon train, se dandinant sur les aspérités de la chaussée, le moteur chantant joyeusement tandis que nos poignets effectuent la chorégraphie des micro-corrections de direction pour maintenir le cap. Le Jimny n&rsquo;est clairement pas fait pour les longs trajets sur voie rapide. Et si le confort de roulement est tout à fait acceptable, celui des sièges, droits, sans maintien latéral et sans réglage lombaire, est à l&rsquo;origine de maux de dos qui vous feront multiplier les pauses.</p>



<p>Côté consommation, nous avons relevé 7,2 l/100 km. Cela peut sembler élevé pour une si petite voiture, mais ce chiffre est à relativiser compte-tenu de l&rsquo;aérodynamique de machine à laver du Jimny et la grande sollicitation du moteur sur les grands axes empruntés.</p>

<p>Sans grande originalité nous avons gardé le meilleur pour la fin : la conduite hors des sentiers battus. Comme vous pouvez le constater sur nos photos, le Jimny est inflexible face aux angles inhabituels que nous lui faisons prendre. Avec sa garde au sol de 21 cm, son poids plume d&rsquo;une petite tonne et ses angles d&rsquo;attaque et de fuite de respectivement 37 et 49°, c&rsquo;est un baroudeur né. Son système de transmission intégrale Allgrip Pro et son aide au freinage en descente permettent de s&rsquo;aventurer sur des chemins défoncés sans risques.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Équipements : une brique pas si rustique</h2>

<p>Rustique mais pas archaïque, le Jimny peut recevoir une dotation dans les standards contemporains. Quelle que soit la version choisie, les technologies d&rsquo;aide à la conduite sont au programme, telle que l&rsquo;aide au maintien dans la voie ou encore l&rsquo;alerte de collision avec détection de piétons (dont l&rsquo;action face à des badauds qui quittaient le passage protégé nous a confirmé l&rsquo;efficacité). Ces équipements étant déjà ou bientôt obligatoires sur toutes les voitures neuves en Europe, rien d&rsquo;extraordinaire.</p>

<p>Le Jimny ne se destine pas aux voyages au long cours, donc se passe de régulateur de vitesse adaptatif ou de détecteur de véhicule dans l&rsquo;angle mort. Il compense côté confort, en accédant à la finition Pack, avec la climatisation automatique et les sièges avant chauffants. Nous regrettons juste que la fermeture centralisée par télécommande ne soit pas offerte dès l&rsquo;entrée de gamme et que sur celle-ci le coffre ne s&rsquo;ouvre qu&rsquo;à la clé, un système auquel ont renoncé même les toutes petites voitures comme la Ford Ka+.</p>

<p>Autre regret, un radar de recul n’aurait pas été du luxe. Malheureusement la roue de secours empêche l’installation de cet élément, indisponible même en option, et n’évite pas les chocs en manœuvre avec des obstacles bas. Ce qui est d’autant plus gênant que les feux sont situés directement dans le pare-chocs.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Tarif : la puce à malus</h2>



<p>Le Jimny est proposé à partir de 17 225 €.<br>La version d&rsquo;entrée de gamme Avantage est intéressante dans la mesure où elle offre d&rsquo;office toutes les technologies d&rsquo;aides à la conduite disponibles. En revanche, elle fait l&rsquo;impasse sur certains équipements de confort obtenus sur la version supérieure Privilège, comme le lève-vitre à impulsion conducteur, les sièges chauffants à l&rsquo;avant et rabattables 50/50 à l&rsquo;arrière, les rétroviseurs électriques et dégivrants et&#8230; le verrouillage centralisé incluant l&rsquo;ouverture du coffre indépendante. </p>



<p>La version haute Pack vous donne accès à l&rsquo;interface multimédia sur tablette tactile 7 » et à la climatisation automatique. En dehors de nouveaux équipements esthétiques (vitres arrière surteintées par exemple), on soulignera également l&rsquo;apparition des feux à LED.</p>



<p>À noter qu&rsquo;avec des rejets en boîte manuelle de 154 g/km de CO2, le malus est conséquent (2 153 €) et devient indécent en version automatique (4 890 €, pour des rejets de 170 g/km). En comparaison, une Fiat Panda 4&#215;4 débute à 15 990 €, avec un malus de 50 €.</p>

<p>Le Jimny est un véhicule unique en son genre et prend le contrepied du marché en affirmant ses lignes cubiques et ses parti-pris techniques. Nous sommes ravis de constater que certains constructeurs osent encore lancer des voitures qui ne soient pas bonnes à tout faire et s&rsquo;adressent à une clientèle qui a des besoins particuliers. S&rsquo;il est difficile de résister à son look « so kawaii », gardez en tête son malus important le plaçant, en version automatique, au prix d&rsquo;une bonne berline compacte et quelques avantages et inconvénients plus ou moins rationnels que nous avons la sympathie de résumer pour vous !</p>
