<p><em>Apparue en 2018, la cinquième génération de Toyota RAV4 a su s&rsquo;implanter dans un marché fortement demandeur de SUV. Mais afin de continuer à se démarquer des autres, le constructeur vient proposer une version Trail qui n&rsquo;était à la base prévue que pour le Japon et l&rsquo;Amérique du Nord. Avec sa seule motorisation disponible en hybride non rechargeable, est-ce que cette finition saura se montrer convaincante ? <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Essai Toyota RAV4 Trail : t&rsquo;as le look coco ?</h2>



<p>Cette cinquième génération du Toyota RAV4 est un véritable <em>best-seller</em> puisque le constructeur japonais en écoule environ 400 000 exemplaires par an. Et afin de ne pas bousculer les codes stylistiques qui fonctionnent, le SUV japonais adopte des mises à jour régulières sans dénaturer le design de son chouchou. Ainsi, après avoir modifié ses optiques et son pare-chocs, il manquait une version ultime, à savoir la finition Trail. Exclusivement destinée pour son marché japonais et nord-américain, la marque a décidé de l&rsquo;introduire en Europe vu l&rsquo;engouement pour son SUV.</p>

<p>Plus orientée « baroudeuse », cette finition se distingue par une calandre noire agrandie et par des protections spécifiques, à savoir des skis avant et arrière de couleur aluminium et des passages de roue en plastique brut. Pour parfaire le tout, elle embarque également des jantes de 19 pouces en gris mat et d&rsquo;une garde au sol réhaussée de 10 mm. Ajoutons à cela le coloris Vert Aventurine de notre modèle d&rsquo;essai, qui lui donne un look très original.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Essai Toyota RAV4 Trail : un intérieur plus cossu</h2>



<p>Quand on rentre dans l&rsquo;habitacle, on découvre tout de suite des sièges en cuir matelassé avec des surpiqures orange. Sur cette finition Trail, on note également des logos sur les seuils de porte et un éclairage à LED. Et c&rsquo;est sans compter sur la présence de connexions USB-C à l&rsquo;arrière. Pour le reste, globalement, rien n&rsquo;a changé et on ressent un sacré coup de vieux face à une concurrence de plus en plus acérée sur ce domaine, à savoir le Kia Sportage ou encore le Hyundai Tucson.</p>

<p>De plus, avec son graphisme un peu <em>old school</em>, ce Toyota RAV4 fait pâle figure. Mais ne vous inquiétez pas puisque la marque annonce une grosse révolution pour 2023 avec l&rsquo;introduction d&rsquo;une instrumentation totalement numérique et d&rsquo;un écran tactile de dernière génération de 10,5 pouces. Des nouveautés que l&rsquo;on retrouve notamment sur les dernières productions de Lexus, filiale luxe du groupe japonais.</p>

<p>Et côté qualité de fabrication ? Malheureusement, comme tout Toyota RAV4, cette finition Trail se montre un peu en décalage avec une partie basse en plastiques bas de gamme. On aurait aimé une version plus luxueuse et moins cheap. Cependant, ce Toyota RAV4 se rattrape en offrant un volume de chargement de très bonne facture avec 580 litres en configuration 5 places et un espace très confortable pour les passagers arrières. De plus, le hayon arrière est motorisé ce qui facilite l&rsquo;ouverture de celui-ci lorsque l&rsquo;on fait ses courses quotidiennes.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Essai Toyota RAV4 Trail : bien équipé comme il faut</h2>



<p>Pour le rendre le plus exclusif possible, ce Toyota RAV4 Trail n&rsquo;est proposé qu&rsquo;en une seule finition et une seule motorisation (la version hybride rechargeable) que nous détaillerons un peu plus tard. <p>Cependant, il est possible d&rsquo;ajouter deux autres packs que notre modèle d&rsquo;essai embarquait. Le premier, dénommé Techno Plus, ajoute des radars de stationnement avec freinage automatique, la caméra 360° et le système audio JBL avec 9 haut-parleurs. Pour le deuxième, il s&rsquo;agit du pack toit ouvrant qui embarque comme son nom l&rsquo;indique le toit panoramique ouvrant électriquement mais y rajoute également un kit anti-crevaison et un rangement sous le plancher. Avec cela, le prix grimpe à 53 750 euros tout compris soit 2 300 euros de packs.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Essai Toyota RAV4 Trail : ça patine toujours mais ça reste frugal</h2>



<p>Alors cette version Trail n&rsquo;est proposée qu&rsquo;en hybride non rechargeable avec 4 roues motrices. Pour expliquer, il s&rsquo;agit du moteur 4 cylindres essence de 2,5 litre de cylindrée atmosphérique accouplé de deux moteurs électriques sur chaque essieu. Grâce à cette combinaison, cela permet au Toyota RAV4 Trail d&rsquo;offrir une transmission intégrale tout en offrant une puissance cumulée de 222 chevaux. Largement suffisant pour mouvoir ce SUV japonais.</p>

<p>Globalement, cette mécanique est silencieuse dotée d&rsquo;une souplesse d&rsquo;utilisation au quotidien. Comme expliqué précédemment, la puissance fournie permet d&rsquo;accélérer dans un confort de fonctionnement sans à-coups. Seul l&rsquo;effet de patinage lorsque l&rsquo;on monte fortement dans les tours et que l&rsquo;on sollicite&nbsp;la transmission à variation continue (e-CVT) peut déconcerter les acheteurs. Mais il est à noter que le reste du temps, cette transmission restera muette et très efficace au quotidien.</p>

<p>De plus, le conducteur ne verra quasiment pas les transitions entre l&rsquo;électrique et le thermique tant les sensations sont imperceptibles sur la pédale d&rsquo;accélérateur. D&rsquo;ailleurs sur les trajets urbains et péri-urbains, le Toyota RAV4 favorisera le mode 100% électrique ce qui permet de consommer peu puisque sur ce type de routes, nous avons pu relever une consommation d&rsquo;à peine 5,3 litres aux 100 km. Un véritable tour de force pour un véhicule de ce type. Et il faudra compter une moyenne de 6,6 litres aux 100 km sur les grandes axes à vitesse stabilisée soit 130 km/h. Un vrai appétit d&rsquo;oiseau pour ce Toyota RAV4 Trail.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Essai Toyota RAV4 Trail : sur un coussin d&rsquo;air avec 4 roues motrices</h2>



<p>Mis à part l&rsquo;effet patinage dans les hauts régimes, ce Toyota RAV4 Trail s&rsquo;apprécie par son silence de fonctionnement. En effet, l&rsquo;insonorisation du moteur est idéale et c&rsquo;est sans compter sur son amortissement très souple. Loin là de dire que le SUV japonais se montre peu dynamique mais le confort de suspension et le peu de bruit intérieur permet de le conduire sur un ton feutré. De plus, avec sa direction directe, les sensations de conduite sont précises sans avoir une impression de flou dans les virages.</p>

<p>Comme cette version Trail profite d&rsquo;un second moteur électrique sur le train arrière, cela permet au Toyota RAV4 de profiter d&rsquo;une transmission intégrale avec un regain de puissance sur l&rsquo;essieu arrière. <p>Et cette version du RAV4 propose également le mode Trail doté d’un différentiel à glissement limité électrique. Il permet de freiner la roue libre et envoie le couple à la roue au sol pour offrir davantage de motricité dans les conditions difficiles. <p>Et ne parlons pas des prestations familiales qui lui permettent d&rsquo;être considéré comme l&rsquo;un des meilleurs SUV du marché.
