<p><em>Après la couronnement du Roi Charles III, retournons dans un autre pays avec volant à droite&nbsp;: le Japon. Si le Royaume-Uni couronne ses Rois, le Japon couronne ses voitures… Retour vers le passé, le voyage de votre hôte se passe entre fin octobre et début novembre, avec une frustration qui commence alors à naître&nbsp;: il n’a pas encore vu la nouvelle génération de la Toyota Crown&nbsp;! Ce n’est pas tout à fait vrai, il en a croisé 2 furtivement. Mais pas de quoi l’observer dans les moindres détails. Alors le dernier jour, il prend un plan de Tokyo, regarde les concessions Toyota, et ni une ni deux, direction la concession la plus accessible par le métro !</em></p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Toyota Crown, une 16<sup>e</sup>&nbsp;génération qui remet les compteurs à 0</h2>



<p>Ne soyez pas surpris par le chiffre. Nous parlons bien de la 16e génération de la Toyota Crown. (Alors que nous en sommes à la 8<sup>e</sup>&nbsp;génération de Volkswagen Golf depuis 1974). La grande berline luxueuse de Toyota a commencé sa carrière sous forme de berline en 1955, sous la marque Toyopet. Destinée d’abord aux taxis, c’est la seconde génération de 1962 qui marque une montée en gamme. Elle sera même proposée en France&nbsp;! Au fil des générations, son caractère statutaire s’est affirmé, et des dérivés coupé, break et même pick-up ont été proposés selon les générations.</p>

<p>En 1991, apparait une ‘’9<sup>e</sup>’’ génération, nommée Toyota Crown Majesta, sans remplacer la 8<sup>e</sup> génération. Son concept pourrait alors s’approcher des berlines coupés actuelles (Mercedes-Benz CLS ou autre Volkswagen Arteon) avec ses portes sans-cadre (nommée alors carrosserie Hard-Top). En 1995 la gamme se sépare avec d’un côté la Crown Confort qui servira aux Taxis jusqu’à l’apparition du Toyota JPN Taxi en 2017, et de l’autre la Royal Saloon et Athlete plus luxueuse ou plus sportive. </p>

<p>Et si nous osions demander si une Toyota Crown est visible ?  Après tout, la concession se répartit sur plusieurs étages même si le showroom se limite au rez-de-chaussée.  Nous avons la chance qu’une des commerciales parle anglais, et nous répond de go qu’un client avait la même demande et que le modèle était en cours d’acheminement via l’ascenseur !</p>



<p>La voilà enfin ! Primeur au client local mais nous pouvons faire le tour de ce véhicule au look étonnant.  La Toyota Crown se présente sous une robe bicolore : la base est grise, mais la calandre, le capot, la pavillon et une grande partie de l’arrière sont teintés de noir ! Nous pensons tout de suite à la Citroën C5 X qui a en commun une ligne allongée sur garde-au-sol surélevée. Elle est aussi un peu plus grande : 493 cm de long, 184 cm de large et 154 cm de haut. Mais le style est ici plus élégant, et à l’instar des anciennes Citroën, la ligne bicorps cache une malle et non un hayon ! </p>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">Place à la Toyota Crown Crossover</h4>



<p>Le coffre est de fait peu accessible, et finalement pas si grand : 450 l. Plus gênant, le fond du coffre n’est pas plan sur la totalité de la surface. Côté place arrière, les 183 cm de haut de votre interlocuteur passent sans mal. Si la taille des Japonais est un peu inférieure à la moyenne européenne, ils aiment l’espace intérieur ! Passons à l’avant, et la sensation est un peu différente. Aucun soucis côté cotes, les réglages sont amples et la place ne manque pas. Mais nous avons la sensation d’être un peu à l’étroit du fait d’une console centrale imposante et haute, ainsi que d’une ligne de vitrage très haute. La position de conduite nous semble cependant bonne et le confort du siège à l’arrêt est prometteur.</p>

<p>Vous aurez remarqué le logo sur le volant : pas de logo Toyota, c’est une couronne (Crown en anglais) qui prend sa place. Même chose sur le capot, le logo Toyota n’apparait que sur la malle. Il est difficile de sortir de la voiture sans y faire un galop d’essai, mais au vu des embouteillages du boulevard de la concession, nous n’aurions pas eu beaucoup de sensation à décrire. Nous faisons un dernier tour de la voiture, pour remarquer que de nombreux détails et découpes de pièces sont très adaptés au style bicolore, les versions monocolores doivent donner l’impression d’être un peu surchargées. </p>



<p>Et puis, plus on la regarde, plus le nombre de pièces extérieures se remarquent, comme par exemple le phare qui ne va pas totalement jusque l’aile, reliés par une pièce plastique qui fait jonction. Ces détails contrastent avec la cellule centrale, qui est assez pure. Mais n’allez pas croire que nous pinayons, l’ensemble présente bien, la Toyota Crown Crossover reste une voiture statutaire, mais un peu de simplicité lui aurait peut-être donné un peu plus d’aura. </p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Et pourquoi pas en l’Europe&nbsp;?&nbsp;</h2>



<p>Au japon, la <a href="https://toyota.jp/crowncrossover/?padid=ag367_from_crown_brand/compare_top_model_crossover_model" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Toyota Crown Crossover</a> est proposée avec un 2.5 hybride de 234 ch, et sont tarif est compris entre 4 350 000 et 6 400 000 ¥ (taxe comprise, ici 10%). Soit au cours actuel (146,86 ¥ = 1€), une gamme comprise entre 29 620 € et 43 580 €. Qui a dit que le Japon était un pays cher ? Pas côté achat voiture en tout cas, mais le coût d’usage avec différentes taxes et obligations que nous n&rsquo;avons pas en France alourdissent la note (<a href="https://lenouvelautomobiliste.fr/culture/263656/conduire-au-japon-est-ce-facile/" data-type="post" data-id="263656" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">voir notre second article sur le Japon</a>) !</p>



<p>La nouvelle Toyota Crown Crossover est redevenue internationale, et vous pourrez notamment la croiser aux <a href="https://www.toyota.com/crown/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">États-Unis</a>. Elle est proposée à partir de $ 39.950, soit au cours actuel 36 600 € mais cette fois ci hors taxes. Nul doute sur chez nous elle serait vendue au-delà de 50 000 €. La version la plus haute de la Toyota Camry était proposée à 52 500 € avec un moteur hybride de 218 ch. Mais est-ce qu’à ce prix-là, vous pourriez être tenté&nbsp;?</p>

<p>Car pour nous, cette Toyota Crown Crossover nous a fait forte impression. Elle pourrait chapeauter la gamme en France avec un look différenciant, mixant berline et SUV. Certes, elle ne sera pas la plus diffusée, mais elle pourrait intéresser une clientèle aisée, aimant se différencier sans sacrifier l’habitabilité, le confort et les sensations d’une berline. Et peut-être aussi pour votre serviteur qui se demande comment remplacer son grand break dans quelques années !
