<p><em>Le MG Marvel R arrive cet automne sur les routes d&rsquo;Europe, c&rsquo;est le second SUV tout électrique de la marque avant le break MG5 et le SUV MG One.</em> <em>Initialement annoncé pour le printemps 2021, ce SUV électrique, le deuxième lancé par MG en Europe </em><a href="https://www.lenouvelautomobiliste.fr/essais/210897/mg-zs-ev-luxury-surprise-de-lannee-2020/"><em>après le MG ZS essayé l’an passé</em></a><em>, marque l’arrivée d’un modèle bien plus moderne dans la gamme. Et dont le positionnement, celui d’un SUV familial avec près de 400 km d’autonomie, entre en concurrence frontale avec le duo du groupe VW, les Volkswagen ID.4 et Skoda Enyaq iV, et avec le prochain Tesla Model Y. Premiers tours de roues en finition intermédiaire Luxury, entre l’entrée de gamme Comfort et le haut-de-gamme Performance.</em></p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>MG Marvel R, à la rencontre d’une pré-série</strong></h2>



<p>On doit vous confesser un <a href="https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosaceae" target="_blank" rel="noopener">pêcher</a> tout d’abord&nbsp;: si l’on a pu essayer ce MG Marvel R avant sa commercialisation, c’est qu’il est dans son ultime phase de mise au point. Enfin, mis au point, il l’est depuis 2018 en tant que Roewe Marvel X en Chine&nbsp;! Mais si la plastique est en partie un restylage, le modèle et ses caractéristiques sont inédits et lancés simultanément entre l’Europe et la Chine, une première pour MG. </p>



<p>C’est donc son adaptation au marché européen (traduction des systèmes d’information, adaptation de la cartographie GPS, homologation…) qui reste à parfaire. En témoigne ces quelques photos de l’infodivertissement dont seuls les sinophiles pourront connaître la signification.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Un Marvel à l’affiche&nbsp;?</strong></h2>



<p>De sinophile à cinéphile, il n’y a qu’un pas avec le MG Marvel R. Bien proportionné pour une longueur de 4,67 m et un empattement de 2,80 m, le design rappelle l’Audi Q5, la face avant la Lucid Air, et la couleur Bleu prisme les teintes à effets du tournant du millénaire (Bleu Nuvola d’Alfa Romeo, Steppe de Renault), mais l’ensemble paraît déjà plus authentique que le MG ZS au fort arrière-goût de la CX-5 et d’iX-35. </p>



<p>Certains détails chromés ajoutent un esprit chic&nbsp;: les poignées rétractables, le médaillon d’aile ou encore les logos. Attention aux jantes, très affleurantes aux pneus et à l’abri d’aucun choc. Les fans de toit ouvrant seront rassurés&nbsp;: il y en a un et il est très grand&nbsp;!</p>



<p>Etrangement, il n’attire pas plus que cela les regards des passants. Les aoutiens sont peut-être blasés, les SUV électriques passés dans le langage <a href="https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Courant_%C3%A9lectrique" target="_blank" rel="noopener">courant</a>, ou tout simplement n’est-il pas si démonstratif&nbsp;? A bord, c’est un peu la même chose.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Star de cinéma&nbsp;?</strong></h2>



<p>Le classique se mêle au moderne à l’intérieur. Le classique, ce sont les commodos du ZS, le volant à multi-boutons ou encore les lève-vitres dont la teinte rappelle furieusement Mercedes. </p>



<p>Mais le moderne est aussi là avec une instrumentation numérique propre et claire -notamment l’affichage du GPS central sur l’écran 12,3 pouces-, et l’immense dalle de 19,4 pouces flottante (plus qu’une Tesla Model X de 17 pouces) qui pare le centre de la planche de bord. Tout s’y règle comme dans une Tesla Model 3, de la clim aux paramètres du véhicule, en version grand format.</p>

<p>La rapidité et la définition ne sont pas optimales sur ce véritable petit écran de cinéma, notamment lorsqu’il s’agit de manœuvrer car la caméra de recul est en décalage d’une demi-seconde par rapport au mouvement de la voiture, mais les menus sont ergonomiques. </p>



<p>A noter, la vision 360°, toujours impressionnante lorsque l’on active un clignotant, même si en réalité le Marvel R commercialisé en Chine propose des équipements plus modernes encore. </p>



<p>Côté assemblages, la MG satisfait jusqu’aux maniaques des plastiques, et les adeptes du kitsch seront ravis de savoir qu’un intérieur marron glacé est prévu en option sur le haut-de-gamme. En degré Luxury, nous nous limitons à du gris ou, comme ici, du noir, avec des sièges offrant un maintien satisfaisant et deux réglages mémoire.</p>

<p>Déception en revanche pour la partition musicale&nbsp;: les haut-parleurs manquent de profondeur et la qualité de son est décevante, l’équipement audio Bose n’étant prévu que pour le niveau supérieur «&nbsp;Performance&nbsp;». Dommage, d&rsquo;autant que le fait que la musique ou la radio ne se déclenchent pas instantanément à chaque démarrage était une bonne surprise.</p>



<p>Electrique (bien pensée) oblige, le tunnel de transmission n’existe pas, gage d’un rang 2 à trois places confortables pour les jambes des passagers. Pour autant, le volume des batteries se fait sentir dans le coffre, au seuil aussi haut qu’est son plancher. D’où un volume de seulement 357 litres (1396 banquette repliée), auxquels il faut ajouter les 150 litres de coffre à l’avant, fermé par un double système de vérin. A l’image du Tesla Model X, le Marvel R est apte à tracter 750 kg en remorquage.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Un comportement doux et prévenant</strong></h2>



<p>La version essayée est un Marvel R Luxury&nbsp;: elle possède deux moteurs, tout deux à l’arrière pour 134 kW de puissance (179 ch, répartis entre un moteur de 116 ch et un autre de 75 ch), mais la version Performance, seule vraie 4 roues motrices, dispose de trois moteurs et 212 kW grâce à une unité supplémentaire disposée sur l’essieu avant (qui scelle le sort des 150 litres de coffre additionnels mais porte la puissance à 284 ch).</p>



<p>Silencieux, le MG Marvel R l’est jusqu’à 90/100 km/h grâce à un vitrage feuilleté qui encapsule bien l’habitacle pour le protéger de l’extérieur. Au-delà, des frottements aérodynamiques, du côté des rétroviseurs et du capot, se font entendre comme un chuintement permanent. La monte pneumatique reste peu sonore (taille&nbsp;: 235/45 R19 pouces) et le moteur, même lors de fortes accélérations, ne siffle pas.</p>

<p>Côté direction, la douceur est aussi au rendez-vous avec une forte démultiplication (près d’un tour de volant pour tourner à 120°) mais également une bonne consistance sur voie rapide, gage d’un positionnement précis du véhicule dans sa trajectoire. Les suspensions sont plus dures à l’avant qu’à l’arrière, étonnamment, et le freinage peut se doser très précisément jusqu’à l’arrêt, comme l’accélération d’ailleurs dont la course de pédale est très progressive.</p>



<p>Le MG Marvel R présente ainsi du couple dès 0 km/h comme tout électrique, mais l’on peut parfaitement doser l’accélération une fois en mouvement, quand d’autres modèles ont plutôt un accélérateur façon interrupteur, ON j’avance, OFF je décélère. A ce propos, trois modes de freinage régénératif sont proposés, de même que trois modes de conduite. Côté poids, comptez 1,8 tonne pour le Marvel R, autant qu’un Enyaq iV 60 mais moins qu’un Mustang Mach-E, de formats équivalents.</p>

<p>Prévenant enfin, il l’était presque un peu trop avec des déclenchements intempestifs d’ESP ou des pré-serrage de frein qu’on mettra sur le compte d’une route trempée par les orages d’août. Le pire reste l’aide au maintien en file, qui vous replace sans douceur, et qu’on ne peut pas aisément déconnecter. Ces éléments pourraient être réglés avant le lancement puisque rappelons-le, ce Marvel nous est montré en avant-première.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Comme une Porsche Taycan&nbsp;? Oui&nbsp;!</strong></h2>



<p>La maison-mère de MG, SAIC, a fait appel à Porsche pour le développement du Marvel R. Or, il est à noter que le SUV a un point commun avec la Porsche Taycan&nbsp;: il possède une boîte de vitesses, de deux rapports exactement, dont le second s’enclenche au plus tard à 110 km/h. L’objectif est de lisser l’accélération pour le premier rapport, et de garantir du couple quand on est sur autoroute où souvent les électriques manquent de reprises. </p>



<p>Le Marvel R, qui développe 179 ch et 410 Nm en version Luxury, poussera alors jusqu’à 170 km/h, sa vitesse de pointe. Quant au 0 à 100 km/h, il est réalisé en 7,9 secondes. Si ce n’est pas assez, la version Performance proposera 284 ch et 665 Nm pour un à 0 à 100 km/h en 4,9 secondes et même un 0 à 50 km/h en moins de 2 secondes, ainsi qu’une vitesse maximale de 200 km/h. </p>



<p>La consommation reste mesurée&nbsp;: entre 18 et 20 kWh/100 km en usage normal, selon que la route soit fluide ou non, conforme au 19,4 kWh annoncés par la marque (20,9 km si vous optez pour la finition Performance). C’est toujours plus qu’une Tesla Model 3 mais bien moins qu’un VW ID.4 qui tangente les 25 kWh/100 km. Attention toutefois : <a href="https://www.challenges.fr/automobile/essais/mg-marvel-r-l-alternative-chinoise-a-la-hyundai-ioniq-5_776745" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Challenges</a> note une consommation plus importante sur autoroute qui monte à presque 28 kWh/100 km, et réduit d’un tiers l’autonomie (qui descend de 350 à 230 km). </p>

<p>La batterie, 69,9 kWh avec chargeur embarqué de 11 kW, promet un temps de charge de 5 à 80 % de 43 minutes. Les tarifs seront annoncés prochainement, et devraient tangenter les 45&nbsp;000 € pour la finition Luxury (plus près de 40&nbsp;000 € en finition de base), de quoi le positionner en alternative accessible au Tesla Model Y dont l’arrivée est imminente ou au Skoda Enyaq iV 60 kW.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Le MG Marvel R b<strong>ientôt en haut de l’affiche&nbsp;</strong>?</h2>



<p>A son lancement officiel, le MG Marvel R sera le second modèle 100 % électrique de MG, son troisième modèle proposé en Europe avec les <a href="https://www.lenouvelautomobiliste.fr/essais/210897/mg-zs-ev-luxury-surprise-de-lannee-2020/" data-type="post" data-id="210897">ZS</a> et l’<a href="https://www.lenouvelautomobiliste.fr/actualites/216379/scoop-le-mg-ehs-phev-en-balade-estivale-a-paris/" data-type="post" data-id="216379">EHS</a> hybride rechargeable, en attendant l’arrivée du break électrique MG 5 et du grand SUV MG One. Il devrait pouvoir compter sur des tarifs aussi intéressants que ceux du ZS à concurrence équivalente, et inutile de rappeler que le contexte est avantageux pour l’achat d’un modèle électrique, que ce soit du côté des aides à l’acquisition ou du rejet des modèles thermiques. </p>



<p>Sur le papier, ce Marvel R a donc toutes les clés pour être un blockbuster. Reste à voir si la critique du public lui sera aussi favorable&nbsp;?</p>
