<p>Mazda ne fait jamais rien comme tout le monde. Défenseur du moteur rotatif sur lequel Citroën s’est cassé les dents, hostile au «&nbsp;downsizing&nbsp;» pourtant opéré par tous ses concurrents gavant leurs trois-cylindres d’un turbo… La marque japonaise nous présente aujourd’hui un moteur essence toujours d’aussi «&nbsp;grosse&nbsp;» cylindrée mais cumulant les avantages de l’essence (souplesse, plages d’utilisation, silence) et du Diesel (consommations basses et couple élevé).</p>

<p>Pour y parvenir, elle reprend le principe de ce dernier&nbsp;: un allumage par combustion. Pour contrôler cette combustion d’essence, Mazda a mis au point une technologie baptisée SPCCI, pour Spark Controlled Compression Ignition (compression d’allumage contrôlée par étincelle). Concrètement, la bougie crée une petite flamme qui permet à la combustion de démarrer et de se poursuivre complètement sur tout le mélange. Un mélange par ailleurs riche en air et pauvre en carburant, d’où les consommations basses, et une pression plus importante sur les pistons expliquant le gain de puissance.</p>

<p>Le résultat escompté&nbsp;? Une puissance accrue, des émissions de CO2 et des consommations moindres par rapport à un moteur essence ordinaire. Mazda annonce ainsi une consommation de 4,3L aux 100 km et des rejets de CO2 de 96 g/km en phase avec les exigeantes normes européennes (pas de honte à aller poser devant les institutions européennes, donc !). Bref, le meilleur des mondes. Et dans la réalité&nbsp;?</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Essai nouvelle Mazda3 Skyactiv-X 180 ch : une curiosité dans le paysage automobile</h2>

<p>Soyons clairs dès le départ. Mazda nous promet plus de puissance, mais pas de la sportivité pure. Et cela nous évite une certaine déception dans la mesure où 180 ch est une puissance qui aurait pu nous laisser espérer un jouet survolté. Le 0 à 100 km/h parle de lui-même&nbsp;: 8,2 secondes, une valeur respectable, surtout face aux 10,4 secondes du Skyactiv-G 122 ch, mais pas exceptionnelle. La Mazda3 peut tout de même être dynamique à la demande, si on oublie les 5 et 6è rapports qui tirent assez long et n’offrent pas des reprises exaltantes.</p>

<p>On peut donc se faire plaisir à bord de cette Mazda3 Skyactiv-X. D’abord parce que ce 4 cylindres chante bien. Il gronde gentiment, se faisant toujours entendre sans que cela nuise au confort acoustique ni que le bruit devienne trop envahissant. Présent, mais discret, il ne produit aucune vibration, même à bas régime. On reprend tranquillement d&rsquo;une caresse sur l&rsquo;accélérateur en 4<sup>ème</sup> à 40 km/h, sans être secoués comme des pruniers… Ce moteur est d’une grande souplesse&nbsp;!</p>

<p>Il se laisse également titiller, quand on préfère la semelle de plomb au filet de gaz. Sur les routes de montagne, la Mazda3 Skyactiv-X n’est pas à la peine. Outre son moteur volontaire pour peu qu’on n’hésite pas à monter dans les tours (atmosphérique oblige, avec une puissance max disponible à 6 000 tours/ minute&nbsp;!), ses qualités dynamiques permettent de prendre ses trajectoires de façon un peu plus musclées. La direction bien calibrée, ce que nous avons déjà souligné dans <a href="https://lenouvelautomobiliste.fr/essais/essai-mazda3-2-0-skyactiv-g-m-hybrid-122-ch-inspiration-auto-zoom-zoom-zen/32230/">notre précédent essai</a>, est précise et permet de s’inscrire naturellement, sans effort disproportionné, dans les petites courbes abordées rapidement. Parfois un peu trop d’ailleurs, mais la transmission intégrale&nbsp; – et, si vraiment on a déconné, les aides électroniques- l’autorise sans danger. On regrettera juste le manque d’informations dans le volant, l’agilité du train avant qui ne se caractérise pas particulièrement par une vivacité amusante mais plutôt par une inflexibilité rassurante et, enfin, le manque de mordant des freins, dans lesquels il faut plonger franchement.</p>

<p>Nous avons eu la chance d’avoir la Mazda3 Skyactiv-X à l’essai suffisamment longtemps pour la tester sur tous types de routes… dont l’Autobahn&nbsp;! Suit-elle le rythme&nbsp;? Et comment&nbsp;! Notre vitesse maximum s’est établie à 221 km/h compteur (216 km/h donnée constructeur) et, plus intéressant, sans crispation sur le volant. Elle y est allée sans broncher, sans mouvement de caisse important, preuve d’une très bonne aérodynamique. Ce n’est pas un exercice qu’on est amené à faire en France mais il est toujours bon de savoir jusqu’où on peut aller en toute sécurité. Ce qui signifie qu’en utilisation normale, tout ira pour le mieux&nbsp;!</p>

<p>Et alors, côté consommation&nbsp;? Sur la première partie de notre parcours, mêlant ville, départementale, montagne et autoroute à vitesse illimitée, nous avons consommé 6,25 litres aux 100 km. Peut-on atteindre les 4,3 l / 100 km donnés par Mazda&nbsp;? Sur la seconde partie de notre trajet, nous aurions pu choisir l’éco-conduite pour y répondre…mais nous avons fait l’inverse et avons profité des qualités dynamiques de la japonaise. Pour dépasser les 7 litres / 100 km. </p>

<p>Ce qui donne une moyenne globale intéressante de 6,7 l/100 km. À titre de comparaison, nous avons brûlé environ 8l/100 km de sans-plomb lors de notre essai de la version Skyactiv-G de 122 ch BVA, en roulant plutôt tranquillement, mais certes handicapés par la boîte automatique. Avec le SUV <a href="https://lenouvelautomobiliste.fr/essais/essai-mazda-cx-30-skyactiv-g-122ch-chainon-manquant/44844/">CX-30 en boîte mécanique</a>, nous avons établi notre consommation à 5,9 litres, en roulant également beaucoup plus calmement qu’avec la Mazda3 Skyactiv-X.</p>



<p>On peut donc aisément penser qu’il est possible d’atteindre des valeurs de consommation beaucoup plus basses, d’autant que notre moteur n’était même pas rodé&nbsp;! Ce qui est remarquable dans l’immédiat, ce n’est pas tant la consommation obtenue que les conditions dans lesquelles nous les avons mesurées&nbsp;: en dehors de tout principe d’éco-conduite&nbsp;! Pari globalement tenu&nbsp;!</p>

<p>Pour justifier ce surcoût, l’équipement s’enrichit également à l’intérieur, avec une sellerie cuir noir perforé à surpiqûres. Du côté du conducteur, elle s’accompagne de réglages électriques permettant de trouver une position vraiment idéale. Quelques détails chromés (volant, bouton de démarrage, poignet de boîte à gants) et un rétroviseur intérieur sans cadre viennent ajouter de petites touches chic.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Les Mazda3 Skyactiv-X reçoivent d’office des jantes noires de 18 pouces ainsi que des badges Skyactiv-X et AWD (le cas échéant). Sur Exclusive, les canules d’échappement s’élargissent, pour atteindre 90 mm de diamètre. Des différences subtiles, mais comme nous l’avons souligné, il n’était pas utile de revêtir la compacte d’un kit sportif, qui n’aurait pas collé à son caractère.</p>

<p>Mazda joue plutôt la carte du premium, surtout dans cette finition ultime. Celle-ci gagne (hallelujah&nbsp;!) des feux de jour à LED qui faisaient cruellement défaut sur notre précédente version d’essai Inspiration. Le coloris Polymetal Gray sied à merveille à la Mazda3 et colle avec son positionnement plutôt haut-de-gamme. «&nbsp;C’est une teinte que l’on retrouve chez des constructeurs comme Audi&nbsp;», nous a-t-on dit. Ou chez Porsche, comme nous avons pu le constater en arrivant devant notre hôtel à Strasbourg&nbsp;!</p>

<p>Avec son allure large et trapue, la Mazda3 flatte toujours autant la rétine une fois l’effet nouveauté passé. Face agressive, capot bien lisse, arrière rebondi créant un effet de mouvement vers l’avant, elle se veut originale et séduisante. Les vitres teintées de cette finition renforcent la similitude avec le concept-car qui annonçait cette version de série.</p>

<p><strong>CONCURRENCE</strong></p>



<p>Une berline compacte de 180 ch ? Il faut écarter les français, qui proposent cette puissance au mieux en Diesel et passent directement dans la catégorie des sportives pures et dures en motorisations essence musclées. Si on jette un oeil du côté du premium, une Audi A3 d&rsquo;entrée de gamme de 190ch exigera déjà plus de 1 500 € supplémentaires avec un déficit d&rsquo;équipement. Les autres japonaises que sont la Civic et la Corolla sont des alternatives toutes désignées, mais en Hybride pour cette dernière, au coffre moins logeable. Reste la Ford Focus ST-Line 182 ch, plus avantageuse financièrement même si on lui ajoute la longue liste d&rsquo;options pour arriver au niveau de la Mazda3 (en faisant l&rsquo;impasse sur la sellerie cuir). Mise à part l&rsquo;américaine, qui consommera au passage sans doute plus, la Mazda3 est donc très bien placée sur le marché, de quoi lui donner encore un peu plus d&rsquo;intérêt !</p>
