<p><em>C’est un établissement en sursis dans une première couronne francilienne en sursaut. Des décennies après Levallois, Montrouge ou encore Pantin, voici venu le temps pour Ivry-sur-Seine d’embrasser la gentrification. Ce grand mouvement de valorisation du cadre de vie conduit irrémédiablement à l’expulsion des activités jugées les moins modernes. Dans le paradigme de la société du ‘nouveau monde’, l’automobile et ses garages fait partie de ce que l’on ne veut plus voir ni entendre, plus sentir ni côtoyer. Alors, pour quelques jours encore, découvrons l’ambiance hors du temps d’International Auto, le dernier établissement portant une bannière Lada. </em></p>

Auto&nbsp;: une histoire écrite à l’encre de la passion</strong></h2>



<p>C’est au numéro 6 de la rue Pierre Galais à Ivry-sur-Seine (94&nbsp;200) que nous avons rendez-vous. Dans ce quartier proche de la Seine, les anciennes activités industrielles et de dépôt, pour certaines intimement liées au faisceau de voies ferrés d’Austerlitz, ont conservé leurs murs de briques et de broc. Un cadre typique prêt à être vendu aux promoteurs sous la forme d’un «&nbsp;quartier plein de charme, authentique et témoin de son histoire&nbsp;», la formulation revue et corrigée de la «&nbsp;banlieue dortoir&nbsp;» au XXIe siècle. </p>

<p>Dans ces petites rues exiguës, l’enseigne bleu aux quatre lettres interpellera tout connaisseur de l’automobile. Tout comme l’on s’étonne encore de voir l’enseigne du distributeur Saab, à quelques encablures de là à Créteil. </p>

<p>Un regard par la porte permet de voir la blouse Lada du mécanicien, ou encore la silhouette d’un Niva Tsarina de 2012 lorsque nous sommes passés. Hélas, cette curiosité ne sera bientôt plus et pour le comprendre, revenons sur son histoire et celle de Lada.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Soixante ans
d’histoire</strong></h2>



<p>Le garage International Auto ouvre en 1959, et hisse l’enseigne Lada en 1976. C’est la pleine époque d’envol de l’automobile russe, bien avant la perestroïka, à une époque où les Jigouli (sur base de Fiat 124) et les premières Niva séduisent pour leur prix et leur robustesse. </p>



<p>Daniel Hourlay, le responsable d’International Auto, y entre comme mécanicien en 1985, après avoir œuvré chez Peugeot Talbot Sport à la grande époque des 205 T16 et des GTi, l’homme a envie de nouveaux défis. Lui qui a déjà deux Paris-Dakar en assistance rapide à son actif devient chef d’atelier en 1991 et partage sa vie entre l’atelier et le sport automobile.</p>

<p>En 2000, Daniel reprend l’établissement. C’est l’époque des
Lada 110, et d’un établissement complet qui faisait à la fois la réparation
mécanique, carrosserie, et concession. La réputation de solidité de la marque
Lada grimpe, après plusieurs décennies de moqueries, tandis que le personnel
est hautement qualifié. <em>«</em>&nbsp;<em>Pendant 20 ans on a été sous-traitant du
réseau BMW. Dans notre équipe, notre carrossier venait de chez Chapron, notre
peintre avait travaillé chez Ferrari…&nbsp;Il restait la nuit pour repeindre
les Lada exposées au Mondial de Paris, où elles étaient parfois endommagées ou
rayées. On les ramenait le lendemain matin. C’était de 2002 à 2006, les
derniers salons avec une présence de Lada à Paris. »</em> </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Un Niva en
rallye-raid</strong></h2>



<p>De 2002 à 2009, Daniel revient à ses premières amours&nbsp;: la compétition et le rallye. Il prépare un Chevrolet Niva 2123 pour participer au championnat de France d’Endurance.<em> «&nbsp;Il n’avait de Chevy Niva que le pare-brise d’origine, et encore&nbsp;! On préparait aussi les voitures du Nivalpes ou de la Croisière blanche en hiver.&nbsp;»</em> </p>

<p>Parmi les autres anecdotes médiatiques, Daniel se souvient aussi avoir loué une Lada pour le film de Michel Blanc, <em>Embrassez qui vous voudrez</em>, ainsi que pour le film <em>Lulu Roi de France, </em>pour l’Eurovision en 2009, lorsque Patrica Kaas a représenté la France, ou encore pour des films publicitaires.</p>



<p>Cependant, avec les années, International Auto réduit la voilure&nbsp;: <em>«&nbsp;On a arrêté la carrosserie, et on est passé de 500 m² à 300 m² aujourd’hui. On a toujours fait de la réparation toutes marques mais avec Lada, on était plutôt à l’abri grâce à notre approvisionnement en pièces détachées.&nbsp;» </em>Signe des temps, l’activité du garage souffre aussi des mesures mises en place ces dernières années contre les voitures anciennes et considérées comme polluantes. <em>« Aujourd’hui, on répare de moins en moins de Lada et surtout, faire de la mécanique est de plus en plus complexe en Île-de-France&nbsp;: comme il faut des voitures récentes pour y circuler en semaine, souvent les gens, pour ceux qui en ont, les font entretenir par leur réseau. Cela aussi, ça nous bloque de l’activité.&nbsp;»</em></p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Lada France&nbsp;: quand
la barque chavire</strong></h2>



<p>L’histoire de Lada rattrape celle de son réseau français. Si la marque perd des parts de marché en France, International Auto demeure l’un des meilleurs points de vente. <em>«&nbsp;En 1986 on réalisait 450 ventes par an, jusqu’à 4 voitures par jour même. C’était l’époque des Samara, et encore&nbsp;: nos chiffres étaient faibles par rapport au réseau Poch installé avenue du Maine. Puis, avec le temps, on est descendu à 100 ventes par an. En 2009, Lada France ferme une première fois pendant 10 mois, puis fin 2018 a lieu la seconde fermeture de la filiale, définitive celle-là.&nbsp;»</em></p>

<p>Paradoxalement, la fermeture de la filiale renforce
International Auto. <em>«&nbsp;Du jour au
lendemain, comme j’arrivais encore à me fournir en pièces détachées, j’ai
commencé à fournir le réseau français tout entier&nbsp;»</em> raconte Daniel.
Dans le court intervalle du retour de Lada, de 2012 à 2018, Daniel réalise des transformations
de Niva au GPL notamment.<em> «&nbsp;On a
aussi un autre client qui a lui fait venir un Niva 5 portes, le seul connu en
France, et qui l’entretient chez nous.&nbsp;»</em>&nbsp; Mieux, les clients les plus fidèles ne quittent
pas le navire. <em>«&nbsp;On a reçu des
commandes pour des Vesta, des Granta aussi, mais on n’a jamais reçu les
voitures…&nbsp;»</em> constate-t-il, amer. </p>



<p>Le fait est que le Groupe Renault, propriétaire d’AvtoVAZ et maison-mère de Lada, privilégie Dacia et son réseau plutôt que de laisser vivre une marque dont la gamme correspond pourtant bien à une demande. D’autant que le frein administratif n’en est pas un&nbsp;: les Lada sont homologuées en Hongrie, elles peuvent donc être vendues dans tout pays de l’Union Européenne France comprise. Seulement voilà&nbsp;: le malus CO<sub>2</sub> en France est une véritable entrave pour qui veut vendre des modèles thermiques, essence de surcroît, à des prix où la taxe double parfois le prix de la voiture…</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Départ paradoxal</strong></h2>



<p>C’est donc une fermeture à l’image de celle de Lada qui
attend International Auto&nbsp;: paradoxale. Pas une faillite, pas une
cessation d’activité non&nbsp;: une décision administrative. La requalification
urbaine du quartier permet à la mairie d’Ivry de demander la fermeture du
garage. L’annonce est tombée le 3 avril, pour une fermeture sous deux mois, le
4 juin. Daniel prend les choses avec philosophie&nbsp;:&nbsp;<em>«&nbsp;Au siège de Lada France, ça a été
pire&nbsp;: ils ont appris la veille du vendredi que la liquidation judiciaire
de la filiale était prononcée&nbsp;».</em> </p>



<p>L’heure est donc aux cartons et à la redécouverte d’objets exhumés, à l’image de cette enseigne lumineuse Lada au logo des années 1980 que Daniel conservera, au même titre que les moules d’ailes de Niva ou ses photos, notamment celle où Coluche est à côté d’un Niva préparé pour le rallye raid. Des souvenirs, nombreux, qui accompagneront le garage International Auto à sa prochaine adresse.</p>
