<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="essai-toyota-yaris-cross-awd-i-un-design-tres-carre">Essai Toyota Yaris Cross AWD-i : un design très carré</h2>



<p>Avant de parler de ce nouveau Yaris Cross, revenons quelques années en arrière. En fait, la marque japonais s&rsquo;était déjà essayée au SUV urbain en 2009 avec l&rsquo;Urban Cruiser. Mais malheureusement, le succès tant espéré s&rsquo;était révélé être plutôt un échec commercial. Cependant, au vu du succès de la Yaris, la marque a changé son fusil d&rsquo;épaule en proposant ce Yaris Cross.</p>

<p>Comme son nom l&rsquo;indique, celui-ci est basé sur la plate-forme GA-B de la nouvelle Yaris présentée en Octobre 2019. Même si le design se rapproche de sa petite sœur, ce Yaris Cross possède un style qui mélange différentes influences. On notera ainsi quelques faux airs de mini RAV4 combinés avec des courbes de Yaris. Et c&rsquo;est sans compter sur les passages de roues qui rappellent le Lexus UX. Pour résumer, ce Toyota Yaris est un véritable patchwork de différents véhicules qui dans l&rsquo;ensemble, offre un bon équilibre global.</p>

<p>A noter que notre modèle d&rsquo;essai arborait la finition Première avec la teinte de carrosserie spécifique bi-ton Or Pur et toit noir qui lui va comme un gant. Cela change des couleurs un peu ternes et sans saveur que la plupart des acheteurs prennent, à savoir le gris, le noir et le blanc.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="essai-toyota-yaris-cross-awd-i-yaris-dans-son-coeur">Essai Toyota Yaris Cross AWD-i : Yaris dans son cœur</h2>



<p>Mais l&rsquo;affiliation la plus évidente de ce Toyota Yaris Cross, c&rsquo;est la planche de bord lorsqu&rsquo;on ouvre les portes. Celle-ci est identique en tous points et reste malheureusement un peu trop classique. On aurait aimé plus de fantaisies afin de contre-carrer le côté sombre de l&rsquo;ensemble.</p>

<p>Côté ergonomie, il y a du bon et du moins bon. Sur la planche de bord, rien à redire, tout tombe sous la main même sur l&rsquo;écran central de 9 pouces du système d&rsquo;info-divertissements (peut-être un peu trop petit). Cependant, les boutons sur le volant et les commandes de la contre-porte viennent entacher le tableau.</p>

<p>En ce qui concernent les premiers, ceux-ci se montrent très petits et il faut sans cesse détacher les yeux de la route pour savoir quel bouton on enclenche. Au niveau de la porte, les commandes de vitres sont très éloignées et la commande d&rsquo;ouverture très difficile à trouver.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="essai-toyota-yaris-cross-awd-i-une-habitabilite-mesuree">Essai Toyota Yaris Cross AWD-i : une habitabilité mesurée</h2>



<p>A l&rsquo;avant, l&rsquo;habitabilité est correcte avec des sièges assez enveloppants. De plus, grâce à la garde au sol plus haute du Yaris Cross, l&rsquo;accès à bord se montre facilité. Seul petit bémol, la position de conduite qui est assez difficile à trouver. il nous a fallu un certain temps avant d&rsquo;avoir une position satisfaisante. Est-ce dû à la plate-forme commune avec la Yaris ? Impossible à savoir.</p>

<p>Niveau habilité arrière, celle-ci se montre assez juste notamment pour 3 adultes. Tout d&rsquo;abord, la découpe de l&rsquo;entrée de porte reste assez tortueuse et comme la Yaris Cross reprend le même empattement que la citadine (2560 mm), la longueur aux jambes reste réduite.</p>

<p>Côté coffre, notre modèle d&rsquo;essai étant la version à 4 roues motrices, la contenance est très réduite. Il faudra voyager léger avec seulement 320 litres disponibles, cela reste assez bas pour ce type de véhicule. A savoir que la version 2 roues motrices profite d&rsquo;une capacité plus notable avec 397 litres.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="essai-toyota-yaris-cross-awd-i-un-equipement-tres-complet">Essai Toyota Yaris Cross AWD-i : un équipement très complet</h2>



<p>Afin d&rsquo;offrir la <a href="https://www.toyota.fr/vehicules-neufs/yaris-cross/configurateur" target="_blank" rel="noopener">version qui conviendrait le plus à votre image</a>, ce Toyota Yaris Cross propose 4 niveaux de finition dénommés Dynamic, Design, Collection et Trail. A cela s&rsquo;ajoute également une version exclusive pour son lancement appelée Première dont notre modèle d&rsquo;essai était équipé.</p>



<p>Commençons tout d&rsquo;abord par la version d&rsquo;entrée de gamme, à savoir la finition Dynamic, seulement disponible en 2 roues motrices. Elle embarque des feux halogènes, le système Safety Sense (système de pré collision, alerte de franchissement de ligne, régulateur de vitesse adaptatif, lecture des panneaux de signalisation et gestion des feux de route), la caméra de recul ou encore la connectivité smartphones Apple et Androïd. Un équipement déjà bien complet.</p>

<p>La seconde finition disponible en 2 et 4 roues motrices se nomme Design. En plus des équipements précédents, cette version ajoute les feux Full LED, la connectivité smartphones sans fil et le système multimédia Toyota Smart Connect.</p>

<p>Vient ensuite la finition Design qui embarque en plus les jantes 18 pouces, la carrosserie bi-ton, l&rsquo;avertisseur d&rsquo;angles morts, l&rsquo;affichage tête haute, la climatisation automatique bizone ou encore les radars de stationnement avant et arrière. Pour la dernière finition dénommée Trail, elle y ajoute des boucliers avant et arrière de couleur grise et des rails de toit. Cette version rend le Toyota Yaris Cross un peu plus baroudeur.</p>

<p>Cependant, il reste une ultime version pour le lancement de ce Toyota Yaris Cross, à savoir la finition Première. Basée sur la finition Trail, cette version de lancement équipant notre modèle d&rsquo;essai se dote du système de stationnement semi-autonome avec caméra de recul, du chargement à induction pour smartphone, du hayon électrique, d&rsquo;une sellerie cuir noir avec surpiqures jaunes et d&rsquo;un toit panoramique.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="essai-toyota-yaris-cross-awd-i-assez-bruyant-au-quotidien">Essai Toyota Yaris Cross AWD-i : assez bruyant au quotidien</h2>



<p>Sur le plan mécanique, ce Toyota Yaris Cross embarque bien entendu le moteur 3 cylindres de la citadine. Celui-ci développe une puissance de 92 chevaux associé à deux moteurs électriques. Le premier à l&rsquo;avant produit 80 chevaux et 141 Nm de couple permettant le fonctionnement hybride du SUV urbain.</p>

<p>Mais pourquoi un deuxième moteur alors ? En fait, bien que notre modèle d&rsquo;essai arbore un système à 4 roues motrices, il ne s&rsquo;agit pas ici d&rsquo;une liaison mécanique mais l&rsquo;adoption d&rsquo;un deuxième moteur électrique sur le train arrière de 5,3 chevaux avec 52 Nm de couple. Que cela soit la version à 2 ou 4 roues motrices, la puissance cumulée reste la même : 116 chevaux au global. Cela peut sembler peu mais avec à peine 1 170 kg sur la balance, c&rsquo;est largement suffisant.</p>

<p>Comme dans la plus pure tradition de la marque, l&rsquo;ensemble mécanique transmet toute cette puissance par la fameuse boite CVT. Même si dans le fonctionnement, elle se révèle très douce sans aucun à-coups quelque soit la réaction du conducteur, la sonorité reste toujours assez désagréable. On a toujours cette sensation d&#8217;emballement moteur lorsqu&rsquo;on hausse le ton. Et sur autoroute, il est quasiment impossible de parler avec le passager avant.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="essai-toyota-yaris-cross-awd-i-un-comportement-serein-mais-rebondissant">Essai Toyota Yaris Cross AWD-i : un comportement serein mais rebondissant</h2>



<p>Concernant le comportement routier de ce Toyota Yaris Cross, celui-ci se révèle plutôt convaincant. Malgré sa hauteur surélevée, l&rsquo;agrément de conduite est propre avec une direction très précise. Les mouvements de caisse sont très bien contrôlés et donnent une sensation de bien être à son volant. On enchaîne facilement les virages sans se soucier de perdre le contrôle.</p>

<p>Seul petit hic, les suspensions qui restent assez fermes. En effet, n&rsquo;importe quel nid-de-poule ou coussin berlinois fait littéralement rebondir le Yaris Cross. Bien que chaussé de roues en 18 pouces, il est dommage pour ce type de véhicule d&rsquo;être aussi raide. Et du coup, cela se ressent sur les chemins accidentés et ne donne pas forcément l&rsquo;envie de crapahuter longtemps.</p>

<p>Côté consommations, le Toyota Yaris Cross se montre plutôt frugal sur les petites routes et en ville. Celle-ci s&rsquo;est établie à 6,2 litres aux 100 km et on a pu même constater une consommation d&rsquo;à peine 5 litres aux 100 km en ville,, lieu où le moteur électrique est le plus sollicité. Par contre, sur autoroute, la consommation reste dans la moyenne avec ses 7,5 litres aux 100 km. Logique vu que le moteur électrique n&rsquo;agit plus et on se retrouve dans des consommations comparables à un SUV urbain sans hybridation.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="essai-toyota-yaris-cross-awd-i-un-marche-tres-engorge">Essai Toyota Yaris Cross AWD-i : un marché très engorgé</h2>



<p>Même si le marché des SUV urbain se montre très chargé, il n&rsquo;existe actuellement que 3 alternatives possibles avec motorisation hybride simple. On pourra compter ainsi sur le <a href="https://lenouvelautomobiliste.fr/actualites/33120/hyundai-kona-desormais-en-hybride/">Hyundai Kona</a> Hybrid, le <a href="https://lenouvelautomobiliste.fr/actualites/35417/presentation-video-du-nouveau-renault-captur-2019/">Renault Captur</a> E-Tech hybride ou encore le Honda HR-V e:HEV.</p>

<p>Même si ces trois concurrents offrent une puissance plus importante (entre 131 et 145 chevaux), seul le Toyota Yaris Cross propose une version à 4 roues motrices. Un argument unique et de choix pour aller gambader plus facilement en dehors des routes. De plus, débutant à 25 500 en 2 roues motrices, le Yaris Cross est moins cher que ses compétiteurs. Et avec 33 100 euros en version 4 roues motrices, il enfonce le clou.</p>

<p>Bien qu&rsquo;il arrive un peu tardivement sur un marché déjà fortement chargé, ce Toyota Yaris Cross se révèle être un vrai choix notamment par la maîtrise de l&rsquo;hybridation de la marque japonaise. Son look vraiment dans l&rsquo;air du temps et son agrément de conduite en milieu urbain feront réfléchir les futurs clients. Sans compter sur le rapport prix/prestations contenu.</p>

<p>Même si la transmission à 4 roues motrices peut se montrer intéressante face à ses concurrents afin de gravir un col enneigé, elle impose quelques désagréments tels que le volume de coffre ou encore les prestations routières notamment sur autoroute. A voir si la version 4&#215;2 corrige le tir ?</p>

<p>Par un jeu de courbes et de nervures, il parvient à dissimuler &#8211; un peu &#8211; son format XXL et ses optiques conventionnelles ; il préserve aussi un avant conquérant typique des SUV. </p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Un intérieur ergonomique, sans démesure</h2>



<p>À l&rsquo;intérieur du Toyota Highlander, on constate les efforts de montée en gamme de la marque, et surtout des signes du statut de SUV haut de gamme du Highlander.<br>On apprécie ainsi l&rsquo;encadrement de l&rsquo;écran multimédia bien dessiné, qui allège son intégration. Les inserts en faux bois sont en revanche plus discutables.</p>

Du classique, plutôt, mais tout de même <strong>beaucoup d&rsquo;équipements</strong>, dans cette finition Lounge,&nbsp;unique choix possible&nbsp;pour les particuliers. Sièges électriques, sièges et volant chauffants, écran compatible Apple Carplay/AndroidAuto, sellerie cuir, régulateur adaptatif, maintien de ligne actif, alertes d&rsquo;angles morts, hayon électrique&#8230; ne subsistent que les options peinture métallisée et grand toit ouvrant.</p>

<p>Les courageux ou petits gabarits du <strong>troisième rang </strong>se voient tout de même <strong>faciliter l&rsquo;accès</strong> par la banquette coulissante vers l&rsquo;avant et les dossiers s&rsquo;inclinant également dans la manipulation. Mais ils souffriront hélas surtout d&rsquo;une garde au toit faible.<br>En revanche, le volume de coffre dans cette configuration à 7 passagers, sera encore de&nbsp;268 l, sous le cache-bagages,&nbsp;ce&nbsp;qui&nbsp;est&nbsp;très&nbsp;honorable (658 l en 5 places).</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Plus dynamique qu&rsquo;il n&rsquo;y parait&#8230; à une chose près ! </h2>



<p><strong>Le Toyota Highlander nous a offert une bonne première impression de dynamisme</strong>, dès les premiers mètres. Non, rien à voir avec la <a href="https://lenouvelautomobiliste.fr/essais/essai-toyota-gr-yaris-changement-de-braquet-222482/">GR Yaris</a>, récemment essayée ! Mais on note tout de même que le Highlander ne souffre pas de l&rsquo;inertie que l&rsquo;on peut trouver chez ses concurrents de même gabarit, grâce peut-être à l&rsquo;aide des deux moteurs électriques (et donc de leur réponse instantanée) du système hybride issu du <a href="https://lenouvelautomobiliste.fr/essais/toyota-rav4-veme-generation-le-4x4-hybride-sans-demi-mesure-20782/">RAV4 </a>et de la <a href="https://lenouvelautomobiliste.fr/a-la-une/essai-toyota-camry-la-berline-de-loncle-san-218638/">Camry</a>. Dénué de suspension pilotée ou pneumatique, le Highlander absorbe tout de même à la perfection les dos d&rsquo;âne urbains. Notons que l&rsquo;auto pâtit d&rsquo;un vieux travers des Toyota hybrides avec un <strong>effet de « patinage type mobylette »</strong> de sa transmission à double trains épicycloïdaux <strong>e-CVT</strong>. Toyota semblait avoir trouvé la recette miracle en gonflant le moteur thermique sur ses Corolla et C-HR, avec une puissance cumulée fort respectable pour le gabarit et le poids de l&rsquo;auto&#8230; permettant de moins solliciter ce thermique. Ici, les 248 ch cumulés peuvent paraître juste suffisants pour déplacer les 2137 kg et <strong>toute accélération est plutôt bruyamment et rugueusement retransmise aux passagers</strong>. La solution en ville est alors de passer en mode Eco, qui donne plus de progressivité à l&rsquo;accélérateur. </p>

<p>Sur autoroute, l&rsquo;auto est véritablement souveraine, avec des bruits d&rsquo;air et de roulement bien contrôlés : de quoi profiter pleinement du système audio JBL à 11 haut-parleurs. On note toutefois, à l&rsquo;image de la (toute) petite sœur Yaris GR, que <strong>le maintien de ligne actif</strong> du Highlander <strong>manque également de transparence</strong> pour être pleinement convaincant, combiné au régulateur adaptatif. </p>

<p>Puis arrivent les petites routes de Chevreuse, classiques pour nous autres franciliens de l&rsquo;ouest, mais toujours plaisantes. Eh bien, le Highlander pourrait avoir le même qualificatif. Rappelons que l&rsquo;auto n&rsquo;as pas de suspension pilotée ou autre et, pourtant, elle nous a vraiment étonnés sur petites routes ! De quoi constater que Toyota persiste et signe concernant la <strong>mise au point</strong> de sa très <strong>convaincante plateforme modulaire</strong> TNGA (version <strong>TNGA-K</strong> ici). En effet, l&rsquo;auto continue de paraitre plus compacte et légère qu&rsquo;elle ne l&rsquo;est. Pas de mouvements de caisse excessifs à déplorer, tout juste un manque flagrant de maintien des sièges. Est-ce grave vue la vocation de l&rsquo;auto ? Pas vraiment. De leur côté, la direction et le freinage semblent limpides, et l&rsquo;auto accepte même d&rsquo;enrouler gentiment de l&rsquo;arrière-train en utilisation plus dynamique. Belle surprise !</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Un brin sous-motorisé, hélas, ce Highlander Hybrid </h2>



<p>Un bon bilan dynamique à nuancer donc à nouveau par l&rsquo;agrément moteur/boîte. Difficile de ne pas faire hurler la mécanique en sortie de village&#8230; ou alors faut-il peut-être le faire un bon coup, en « boost » puis laisser couler l&rsquo;auto au maximum ensuite, en silence. Maintenir l&rsquo;accélérateur modérément ne fera que prolonger ici les « nuisances sonores ». En bref, un compromis à (re)trouver ici, mais visiblement pas Fromage et Dessert ! D&rsquo;ailleurs, les 248 ch cumulés ne sont pas de trop pour doubler efficacement sur route. Peut-être aurait-il été judicieux de proposer l&rsquo;hybride rechargeable de 306 ch du RAV4 ? </p>

<p>Justement, Toyota a eu le nez creux dans la tourmente actuelle autour de ces autos (trop?) sophistiquées&#8230; Sans lourde batterie, à possiblement devoir trainer vide, <strong>le Highlander s&rsquo;en tiendra toujours entre 8 et 9 l de moyenne</strong>, en extra-urbain, comme dans le cadre de notre essai. À combiner avec un réservoir de 65 l, vous avez bien <strong>une auto « eco-friendly »</strong>, et non-Diesel, <strong>capable de longues distances</strong> ! En urbain, en bonne hybride Toyota, vous pourrez régulièrement rouler en électrique et faire largement tomber la consommation, sans doute aux alentours des 6 l pour le Highlander. Hélas,<strong> la taxe sur le poids menace l&rsquo;auto pour 2022</strong>&#8230; Elle ne pourra sans doute pas y échapper n&rsquo;étant qu&rsquo;hybride simple et non rechargeable. Voilà qui limite les ambitions de ventes de Toyota France. Les familles nombreuses regarderont alors de plus près leurs avantages a priori accordés s&rsquo;il y a au minimum trois enfants à charge permanente. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Quand vient l&rsquo;heure du choix</h2>



<p>Si un certain Renault Espace V s&rsquo;apprête à quitter la scène des grandes autos familiales, en n&rsquo;ayant remporté que peu de suffrages lors de sa « SUVisation », plusieurs alternatives sont désormais en place : face aux plus classiques et petits SUV familiaux <a href="https://lenouvelautomobiliste.fr/a-la-une/essai-nouveau-peugeot-5008-gt-puretech-180-laissez-passer-pour-papas-presses-219026/">Peugeot 5008</a> et autres VW Tiguan Allspace, on a vu arriver récemment de plus originaux <a href="https://lenouvelautomobiliste.fr/essais/essai-ford-explorer-hybride-rechargeable-st-line-vous-avez-dit-contradiction-219981/">Ford Explorer</a>, Hyundai Santa FE et notre Toyota Highlander ! Il formera donc<strong> l&rsquo;unique proposition hybride simple</strong>, pour une consommation maitrisée à tous moments et donc de belles qualités tant en termes de vie à bord, en équipement technologique, à jour, qu&rsquo;en agrément de conduite. Notez également les possibles bénéfices de la <strong>transmission intégrale</strong> permise par l&rsquo;hybridation, lors de vos escapades hors des sentiers battus.</p>



<p>Une recette réussie accessible en finition Lounge à partir de <strong>62 500 €</strong>, hors malus de 1 276 €. </p>
